Starting from the quiet western side of the mountain, the Lemosho Route offers a peaceful wilderness experience, low traffic in the first days, and spectacular views across the Shira Plateau. Following the “climb high, sleep low” principle, this 8-day itinerary gives your body excellent time to adjust to the altitude on the way to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), supported throughout by professional guides, cooks and porters.
Arrive in Tanzania and transfer to your hotel in Arusha. In the evening, meet your mountain guide for a detailed pre-climb briefing covering the route, safety procedures, altitude awareness and equipment inspection, followed by dinner and a good night's rest.
Drive to the western side of Kilimanjaro, completing registration at Londorossi Gate before beginning your trek through untouched rainforest — one of the most beautiful sections of the mountain — to Mti Mkubwa Camp.
Leave the rainforest for the heath and moorland zone, with your first impressive views of Kibo Peak as you gain elevation, before arriving at Shira Camp 1 to enjoy the peaceful Shira Plateau at sunset.
An important acclimatisation day trekking across the scenic Shira Plateau to Lava Tower (4,630m) for lunch, before descending into the spectacular Barranco Valley, home to giant Senecio plants and dramatic cliffs.
Tackle the famous (non-technical) Barranco Wall for breathtaking panoramic views, then continue across ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp, with a shorter day allowing extra time to acclimatise before the summit push.
A short but important day crossing high alpine desert to Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit attempt, where your crew will prepare your gear and you'll rest early ahead of the midnight ascent.
Begin the midnight summit push through Stella Point to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, then descend to Barafu for refreshments before continuing down to the warmer, lower Mweka Camp.
Descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you'll receive your official summit certificate and thank your mountain crew, before transferring back to Arusha to celebrate your achievement.
