Itinerary at a Glance

Known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” Marangu is the only Kilimanjaro route with hut accommodation, offering more comfort and protection than the camping routes. This itinerary includes a full arrival and preparation day plus an extra acclimatisation night at Horombo Hut, taking you through rainforest, moorland and alpine desert to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) — the highest point in Africa — with professional guides, porters and strong safety support throughout.

Full Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Tanzania — Transfer to Moshi & Climb Preparation

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi to rest and recover. In the afternoon you'll meet your mountain guide for a full briefing on the trekking schedule, altitude challenges and safety procedures, plus a complete equipment check before a peaceful evening ahead of the climb.

Day 2

Moshi — Marangu Gate (1,870m) — Mandara Hut (2,700m)

Drive to Marangu Gate to register and meet your mountain crew, then begin hiking through the beautiful rainforest zone at a slow, steady “Pole Pole” pace, with a chance to spot birds and monkeys before reaching Mandara Hut for your first night on the mountain.

Day 3

Mandara Hut (2,700m) — Horombo Hut (3,720m)

Leave the rainforest behind for the dramatic moorland zone, passing the scenic Maundi Crater viewpoint with breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscape before reaching Horombo Hut — one of the most beautiful camps on the mountain.

Day 4

Horombo Hut — Acclimatisation Day

A crucial rest day to help your body adjust to the altitude before the summit push. A shorter acclimatisation hike toward Zebra Rocks or the Mawenzi viewpoint rewards you with incredible volcanic scenery, followed by an afternoon of rest and summit preparation.

Day 5

Horombo Hut — Kibo Hut — Uhuru Peak (5,895m) — Horombo Hut

The most challenging and rewarding day of the climb. Trek across alpine desert to Kibo Hut, then begin a midnight summit push via Gilman's Point to Uhuru Peak — the highest point in Africa — before descending back to Horombo Hut for a well-earned rest.

Day 6

Horombo Hut — Marangu Gate — Moshi

Descend through moorland and rainforest back to Marangu Gate, where you'll receive your official Kilimanjaro summit certificate before returning to Moshi to celebrate your achievement.
