Standing at 4,566m inside beautiful Arusha National Park, Mount Meru combines adventure, wildlife and dramatic landscapes with breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro. Unlike many high-altitude climbs, the trek begins through forest where you may spot giraffes, buffaloes, zebras and monkeys before reaching the alpine zones, the famous Meru Crater and the crater rim on the way to Socialist Peak — supported throughout by professional guides, porters and an armed park ranger.
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Arusha, at the foot of Mount Meru. In the evening, your guide will brief you on the route, weather conditions, safety procedures and equipment preparation.
Register at Momella Gate inside Arusha National Park, then trek through open grasslands where giraffes, zebras, buffaloes and antelopes are often seen, continuing into montane forest with an armed ranger before reaching Miriakamba Hut.
Climb through forest and giant heather vegetation with amazing views of the Meru Crater, then rest at Saddle Hut with an optional acclimatisation hike to Little Meru Peak (3,820m) for spectacular sunset views before an early night ahead of the summit push.
Begin the midnight summit push via Rhino Point and the crater ridge, reaching Socialist Peak — Mount Meru's highest point — for sunrise views of Kilimanjaro, then descend through the forest to Momella Gate for your summit certificate and transfer back to Arusha.
